Can love conquer hate?

February is here and I am reevaluating many things. January was unusual for lots of reasons not just the weirdness of the weather. Whatever is going on at the government level is disturbing. I can’t understand the hate directed at the LGBTQIA+ community. Whom have they ever hurt? Does just the existence of a LGBTQIA+ people cause pain? What happened to live and let live or love your neighbor? I don’t know what to do to help.

I’m a Boomer and I remember the 60s and 70s and their messages of peace, love, and understanding. What happened to that wonderful direction we were going? The easy answer is there are a number of greedy rich SOBs that are now in control of our government. But there has to be more to that. The climate of fear that has been nurtured since the much-vaunted Ronald Reagan era has born fruit. A Nation at Risk (1983) was an opening salvo on our public education system that is now in danger. The voucher system is draining taxpayer dollars to private schools that can turn away students that don’t meet their criteria (i.e. are from a minority, are disabled, aren’t smart enough, are difficult to educate). The public schools are left with all of the problems and less funding to help.

I could rant on this for days but of what use is that? I will still push for education for all and find ways to do what I can for our public school systems.
